The Deputy Director General of rural development and the service head for cooperative development conducted a one-week working visit to the PCC in order to study the conditions for the revival of cooperative activities in Gabon. The described prevailing national situation shows that cooperative societies worth their salt are very rare in Gabon and those that exist are poorly structured. Nevertheless, the delegation presented two opportunities:
• The firm commitment of the Minister of Agriculture to revamp the cooperative sector,
• The commitment of the FAO to support the revival of the agricultural sector.
It is on this basis that the mission accepted the PCC proposal to develop a programme that will be submitted to the two institutions mentioned above. Although the overall programme that was envisaged in the 2015 Budget has not yet been launched, we note with satisfaction that the FAO has started to materialize its commitment by putting in place and training its actors in the process.
