As part of the implementation of the PADCOOP, the PCC requested and was granted an audience by the Minister of Public Health of Cameroon to propose the cooperative health clinics programme. This programme targets two main objectives including low-cost community-based health services and the self-employment of young graduates from health and related professional training schools.
The minister was pleasantly surprised to discover that outside the conventional microfinance and agricultural sectors in general, the cooperative formula can be applied to the health sector. He appointed the Director of healthcare, Professor OWONO, as the focal point of the PCC in view of better ownership of the offer by the Ministry. Constructive discussions are ongoing on the issue.
